Green Jobs - SWCC Seed Collection Training

The Green Jobs project was supported by the South West Catchments Council, through funding from the Department of Environmental Regulation’s Green Jobs Program.

This project saw the LCC assist up to 10 individuals seeking employment and development of skills in the environmental sector, specifically in the process of seed collection and processing activities. The South West is an international biodiversity hotspot, and as the region moves further into a drying climate, with direct impact on seed production, germination, and pollination success, the skillset involved in the propagation of native flora becomes more critical.

The crew collected and processed seed from Forest of jarrah (Eucalyptus marginata) and marri (Corymbia calophylla); Woodland of marri and wandoo (Eucalyptus wandoo); Woodland of tuart (Eucalyptus gomphocephala); Forest/woodland of jarrah with Allocasuarina and Banksia species.
