Wendy’s Garden


Central to Wendy’s front garden is a beautiful 50-year-old tuart tree, providing a shady wildlife oases enjoyed by many birds for feeding and nesting.  

With over 30 different native plant species in her front garden it’s no wonder her garden is teeming with biodiversity. Wendy regularly encounters ringtail possums and a huge variety of bird species including; Ravens, Magpies, Wattlebirds, New Holland Honey-eaters, Bronze wing pigeons, Butcher Birds, Mudlarks, Willywag Tails, Black faced cuckoo-shrike and twenty eight parrots to name a few!

A waterwise selection of native plants loved by resident western ringtail possums, and succulents means Wendy spends little to no time watering this part of her garden and her commitment to creating a sustainable and inviting habitat has resulted in a flourishing ecosystem.

This garden is fully accessible to wheelchair users.

David’s Garden


Are you a keen bird enthusiast? Then you’ll love David’s Garden! With an incredible variety of large native trees and plants selected specifically to attract and support local birdlife, David’s garden is constantly alive with the vibrant activity of birds visiting, feeding, and nesting.

David also has a fantastic collection of bird photographs that he has taken in his garden over the years showing the bountiful and diverse array of species that visit.

This garden is fully accessible to wheelchair users.

Gail’s Garden


Be inspired by the inspired. Gail’s garden might be small in size but it packs a punch that has already inspired others to grow native verges. Combining native species, waterwise plants and a mix of edible plants, the garden has been transformed from bare limestone to a thriving garden verge bursting with colour and loved by small birds.

This garden has restricted access to wheelchair users.

Jane’s No Fuss Native Verge Garden


Jane’s no fuss, low-cost native verge garden is bursting with beautiful native plants! Designed for the time savvy gardener, Jane’s verge has grown from an area of bare sand to one completely full of colourful plants, carefully selected for their hardiness and suitability for a verge.

This garden is a wonderful example of what is possible with a small space, and it is incredible to see the level of biodiversity it has attracted.

This garden is fully accessible to wheelchair users.                                               

Please note: There is an active beehive on site at this garden. Please inform staff present if you are anaphylactic.

Possum Place


Step into Possum Place, a garden created for native wildlife and a sanctuary for those with a passion for nature. This garden is a perfect example of how thoughtful design and local native plantings can create a space that’s as inviting for animals as it is for people.

Visit Possum Place and learn how to incorporate many different special features designed to support the local ecosystem in your own garden.

From the bat box to the frog hotel, each element has been installed to protect local native wildlife. The bird bath offers a refreshing stop, while the ‘possum highway’ and possum dreys—some hand-made, others by the possums themselves—provide safe passage and nesting options for the critically endangered western ringtail possum.

This garden has narrow paths restricting access for wheelchair users.

Mike’s Garden


Mike’s garden is a brilliant testament to how a small space can be transformed into a vibrant and functional sanctuary. With a keen eye for design, he has artfully blended sculptural elements with neat gravel paths to create a garden that is both visually striking and practical. The garden’s colourful native plantings not only add splashes of life and texture but are also a magnet for nectar-feeding birds, creating a lively and dynamic environment.

This garden has restricted wheelchair access.

Carolyn’s Garden


Informed by a lifetime of her love of the bush and guided by the natural eb and flow of change as plants come and go, Carolyn’s garden is a truly loved space, thriving with local wildlife.

What was once a bare couch lawn has, over thirty years, been transformed into a thriving native garden. A standout feature is the striking gabion rock fence, created with rocks and broken paving found on site. The rock fence provides a stunning architectural element, adding texture and depth to the landscape while offering a strong and elegant backdrop for the vibrant native flora.

This garden has restricted access to wheelchair users.

Very limited parking on verge, recommend ride or walk to this location from the Big Swamp car park.

The Home of Birdsong


Titled “Jerda Mia Wangalup” (home of birdsong) in the local Noongar language by UWA language specialist Professor Len Collard, this wildlife haven is an inspiration source for Sue, Australian nature artist who with her husband Richard, are the owners of this garden.

Tucked away in the sand dunes of Bunbury, this garden provides an extension to the bush reserve which the property backs onto. Combining natural wilderness with artistic sculptural elements, this garden is a true delight.

Parking: We designed our first Open Nature Gardens Bunbury event to be conducted on pushbike - as a fun activity to enjoy with your family and friends. If you wish to drive there are designated parking locations on the map, some of the gardens have very limited parking close by, please get in touch if you require more information.

Accessibility: We aim to make Open Nature Gardens Bunbury a fully inclusive event, but unfortunately some gardens do present access difficulties for wheelchair users and people with limited mobility.
